Is The Keto Diet Right For You? | My Experiment With Keto [Freebie Inside]

Hey! I'm Emilie and I'm an "Emilieitarian". I would imagine you're wondering what that is!

Well, it's my way of eating that is unlike anyone else's way of eating. In the spring of 2017, I began seeing the ketogenic diet pop up all over Facebook, so I began to wonder if this might be the answer to my weight problem.  In my spirit, I knew it wasn't the answer, but my heart and mind weren't yet convinced that a diet wasn't going to bring me what I see the number I wanted to see on the scale and to get in the size clothes I wanted to wear.

So I did what any woman looking for a new diet does. I Googled "ketogenic diet" and began educating myself on this way of eating.

You may have wondered or you may have even explored if the keto diet is right for you, especially since it seems to be The Diet everyone seems to be talking about these days.

In today's episode of LiveFREE TV we'll talk about the popular Keto diet and my hope is to help you decide this diet may be right for you.

Over the last nine months, God has had me on a journey for the first time in my life to learn how to eat exactly for me, not because a so-called expert or a diet tells me to eat that way. And I'm finding more peace and freedom than I ever have before. I want the same for you!

What does it mean to be Fat Fueled?

I know I mentioned in the video that one of my goals was to be "fat fueled" and not to eat a certain number of macros or to obsess about being in ketosis. That's just another form of bondage, and it will lead me right back to the crazy road of jumping from the ditch of restriction to the ditch of binging.

I love Leanne Vogel from Healthful Pursuits definition of fat fueled...

Becoming Fat Fueled is a state where your body has adapted to burning fat as fuel. As you slide into fat burning mode (without the need to go strict low-carb all the time) your body will begin to promote the balancing of your hormones, energy, weight, cravings, food sensitivities, and emotional food triggers.

When we’re jumping on (and falling off) the “wagon”, we get stuck in an endless loop of feeling like we’ve failed over, and over and over. Fat Fueled allows us to transform our feelings of shame and failure into thoughts and actions that make a transformative impact on our lives.

Isn't that powerful? But trust me about this, eating a certain way will NEVER remove our shame by itself. Only God through Jesus and by the Holy Spirit will our shame be removed and replaced with love, grace, and peace.

How to Know If Your Fat Adapted

According to Leanne, being fat adapted is the process of your body learning how to use fat as fuel. And keto or ketogenic is the diet or way of eating to go through the process of becoming fat adapted.

So even if you are eating a keto diet, it will take time for your body to adapt to using fat as fuel.

Below are a few of the signs that you are fat adapted according to Leanne, and according to my own personal experience.

  • You can skip meals without feeling like your going to eat your arm off or without getting angry because you are hungry!
  • You can go anywhere between 3 and 6 hours without a snack and be totally fine.
  • You crave high-fat foods over low carb foods
  • You will experience tons of energy and it will be pretty even throughout your day.  Not the up and down roller coaster.

I truly hope this episode has been helpful to you and will give you a practical way to determine if the keto diet may be right for you!
